STUDY AND THE RATIONALE
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells, leading to a rapid proliferation of skin cells that results in red, inflamed, and scaly patches. Apremilast is a selective phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor used in the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis and active psoriatic arthritis.
It is currently available in tablet form, and treatment is associated with numerous side effects. To date, there are no commercially available topical formulations for the management of psoriasis.
IMCD has conducted a detailed study, resulting in a patient-friendly topical Apremilast formulation aimed at improving the API’s skin permeation and solubility, thereby enhancing patient appeal for better management of psoriasis.
